ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Sasha is certified through Power of Yoga Canada and Rainbow Kids Yoga children’s yoga programs. She has been teaching her Jai Yoga classes, which she designed for Kids with Special Needs for the last 3 years in conjunction with Project Autism Canada.
"So what inspired me to teach yoga? My Son Riley is my inspiration. Riley struggles with serious anxiety and ADHD. This is what remains of a potential ASD diagnosis after years of intensive therapy and diet changes. Through his therapy he has been taught some great yoga based breathing/calming techniques. I had the opportunity to use my Yoga breath with him while he was in mid panic attack and unable to bring his breath under control. I pulled him onto my lap, put my face beside his ear and began breathing and rocking in time with my breath. Within 2 min his breathing came under control and he was able to calm down. A few days later a light bulb went off for me when I was talking to an instructor about a boy with Asperger’s coming to her class.
That’s it! A class set up just for these amazing kids. Jai Yoga classes were designed to help develop their skills to calm themselves, feel confident within their own selves, and that can work in conjunction with their therapy. That’s why I teach yoga. I want to continue to provide support, mentorship and guide these amazing kids and see them bloom." - Sasha
